Dr. Richa Mulchandani from Gujarat National Law University, Gandhinagar India visited Keio University in the month of June, 2019. During her visit to Keio University, she delivered four lectures in two undergraduate courses, coordinated by Prof. Rajib Shaw, namely ‘International Environment’ (4th and 11th June) and ‘Undergraduate Seminar’ (3rd June and 10th June). In her lectures, Dr. Richa talked about different topics ranging from ‘Environmental Law History and Development’ to ‘Economic Analysis of Gandhi and Environmental Movement’. These topics were of high interest to undergraduate students, as they got to learn the Environmental law history, relating to different countries around the world including Japan. The simplified understanding of key concepts related to Environmental legislation like ‘Acts’, ‘Regulation’, ‘Constitutional Provisions’ etc. were very much helpful to student’s knowledge building. Dr. Richa also talked about the relevance of environmental concerns raised by Mahatma Gandhi a century ago and how they are of high important in the present-day context. In one of the lectures, she also talked about ‘Solar Energy Potentials: Issues and Challenges’. This lecture explained about the need for focusing on renewable energy sources and the current scenario around the world, with reference to the case of Japan and India.
During her visit to Keio University, Dr. Richa Mulchandani also interacted with few doctoral students. She provided concrete inputs to students based on the perspective of Environmental legislation and explained about the the importance of policy integration and decision making.
